Kings of War Kickstarter has begun!

Kings of War Fantasy Battle Game – 2nd Edition Kickstarter now on!

Kings of War is a mass-battle fantasy miniatures game, written by Alessio Cavatore and produced by Mantic Games.

In Kings of War, massive armies of miniatures do battle on the tabletop, moving, fighting, shooting and casting magic to outmaneuver and out-muscle the opposition.

The game is governed by a set of easy to learn and intuitive rules, designed with simplicity in mind. You will never act in your opponent’s turn, meaning there is no time wasting, combat is determined using six-sided dice using the innovative Nerve system.

But simplicity doesn't mean that the game isn't fun or challenging – flanking and rear attacks are devastating, cavalry charges are powerful and a barrage of gun fire will knock even the most hardened warrior from their feet. This is a game of tactics and strategy, played out in fast, furious and fun games.

There are 12 armies to choose from: Elves, Dwarfs, Orcs, Goblins, Ogres, Abyssal Dwarfs, Undead, Twilight Kin, Basilea, the Kingdoms of Men, Forces of the Abyss and the Forces of Nature. In the new edition, each will feature new units or heroes, offering even more choice and variety.

This Kickstarter is to fund the 2nd Edition Kings of War Hardback Rulebook, a new tome that will build on the previous edition to create a bigger and better game. It will include:

• Enhanced Game Play - with improvements to the rules to improve the strategy, speed and simplicity in the game.

• Refreshed Army Lists - all armies will be updated and rebalanced, and new units and new armies will be added to the core rulebook.

• Fantastic New Art - an update to the art library throughout the book to bring the world to life.

• Develop the Background - exploring the fantasy world and each of the factions like never before.

• and more!

Kings of War 2nd Edition grew out of gamer demand. After thousands of games and numerous tournaments played across the globe over the last 4 years the gaming community saw opportunity to streamline and develop the rules and army lists to an even higher level. The new rule set will allow you to play exciting games with huge armies - from start to finish in an evening. The background will let you engross yourself in the world of Kings of War and its history, and study your opponent’s force and the units at his disposal - so you can plan their defeat!

The campaign started at 1:30pm GMT on Friday 14th November and funded the $25,000 funding goal in about 5 minutes. It has since taken $145,000 at the time of writing, funding the demonic hard plastic Lower Abyssals and closing in on their Succubi kin.

The Kickstarter finishes 11:59pm Monday 1st December – please pledge your support!

Modiphius answers questions about the Infinity RPG on the WGC Facebook group

Chris BirchWGC Infinity

CB: Hey guys I'm in charge of the Infinity RPG from Modiphius - happy to answer any questions about what's to come!

Q: So how's character creation so far?

CB: It will be a cool lifepath system as well as points buy for creating that specific figure or character you like.

Q:What dice will be involved in the game?

CB: 2 x d20's - we typically have up to 5 for each player in Mutant Chronicles as you can 'buy' extra's at a cost, though we don't know if this extension will make it in the Infinity version. The idea is to give you the chance to get multiple successes and spend those doing awesome things

Q: Are there going to be faction books?

CB: Yes they'll go in to the worlds and resources of each faction, what life is like and much more, tailored character generation life paths, specific equipment, adventure seeds...

Q: Will the game itself have the Human Sphere as the main POV, or will EI/Tohaa campaigns be a play possibility?

CB: Tohaa characters will certainly be possibly, we're still discussing whether Combined Army characters should be playable.

Q: How will character classes work? How many will be available?

CB: You will have careers that add skills, equipment, talents and attribute bonuses, then Iconic roles will let you be part of famous organisations for each faction. There will be many more with each faction book

Q: Are you guys going to try and keep some stats from the miniature game like you guys did with dust?

CB: We'll be keeping as many familiar elements as we can.

Q: What happens if your buddy wants to choose an opposing faction as you? Or a whole group all want to do different factions.

CB: That's fine - remember the factions are not in open war, and there will be plenty of ways to get caught up together, assigned to work together or just finding some common friends in a goal. We've got some specific organisations that will encourage co-operation, and there's many story hooks to dump a bunch of misfits together.

Q: I am assuming that combat will be handled by the current miniature game system, so the stats will be similar and compatible, correct? that way we can take custom characters into Non-tournament matches.

CB: No it will use the 2d20 rpg system - but this is also a roll under a target number on multiple d20's and you'll find many familiar things in it. Corvus Belli tried several times to convert the system and were not happy. There goal is to ensure we can tell Infinity stories. 2d20 will let you have multiple action scenes in one session that would have taken 2 hours each in the tabletop rules. However we will be providing means to convert your favorite characters to the RPG and back again.

Q: As long as it comes with a conversion system well manage, was hoping for a simple way to generate mission NPCs by using the current army lists. from the combat game

CB: You'll have all the main npc's listed and we're looking at a deck of cards for npc's, locations etc that let's you quickly generate missions - by plan, or randomly.

The playtest forum is now ready:http://www.modiphius.com/forum.html...
Forum Come and join the discussion, just keep it friendly and fun!
MODIPHIUS.COM

Q: Can you tell us what the stats are and what sorts of non-combat skills exist?

CB: Quoting from Mutant Chronicles - so remember this will change for Infinity - you have Agility, Awareness, Co-Ordination, Intelligence, Mental Strength, Personality, Physique and Strength, - lots of non combat skills from Animal Handling and Persuade, to Treatment, Mechanics, Sciences, Thievery, Obversation etc - check out the Beta on RPGNow for more examples - the rules have changed somewhat since this was put out but it will give you some ideas http://www.rpgnow.com/.../Mutant-Chronicles-3rd-Edition...

Mutant Chronicles 3rd Edition FREE Open Beta - Modiphius | | Free...
RPGNOW.COM

Q: Any idea how much original art will be in the book? and will you be using the same amazing artists CB does?

CB: There will be existing and new art - we're not sure yet who'll we'll be using - it depends if people are available.

Q: Can we pre-order using PayPal? My credit card gets a bit frantic when I purchase something in British Pounds.

CB: Yes you will be able to use paypal as well as cards for the pre-order.

Official INFINITY Tabletop Roleplaying Game Announced!

London-based Modiphius Entertainment has announced a licensing deal with Corvus Belli to create a line of roleplaying games based on INFINITY, their top-selling miniatures skirmish game.

Infinity was launched by Spanish company, Corvus Belli in 2005. It actually started life as a homemade RPG setting for the early roleplaying adventures of Alberto, Carlos, Fernando and Gutier, before it evolved into the hugely-popular wargame and miniatures range.

The team's original RPG sessions featured the ever-controlling AI ALEPH, the Ariadnan isolated colonists, the fearsome Hassassin and the tricky Tohaa, and later grew into their gaming universe. A never-released comic project provided the first concept design, which inspired them to create Infinity the game.

The Infinity storyline follows the battles of the Human Sphere against the alien Combined Army, a collection of conquered alien races led by an aggressively resourceful AI. A recent encounter with the enigmatic Tohaa, who want to ally with the Human Sphere against the common enemy, sets the stage for a vast story of conspiracy, war and adventure.

Now, the gaming world is poised to discover the truth behind Infinity. The newly-announced roleplaying game will give players the freedom to adventure in the Human Sphere and beyond, learning a myriad of never-seen-before secrets about the Infinity universe and its strange alien races.

Modiphius teamed up with Corvus Bellis to unite their roleplaying publishing expertise with the fantastic Infinity setting.

"As Infinity was created by roleplayers, our secret desire has been always to release the RPG version of the game. Unfortunately, Infinity requires all our time and we were unable to create the RPG everyone has been asking for. To find the right partner, with the same attention to detail has been really difficult and the reason we have not released an RPG before. So, when Chris contacted us we felt very happy, as he demonstrated a deep understanding of the universe and spirit of Infinity. We discussed plenty of covert operations, secret schemes and adventures and we know Modiphius has a very professional approach that will ensure they deliver a truly high-quality product. Now we only regret not having teamed up with them before!" said Gutier, background developer of Infinity.

Modiphius have announced that the Infinity roleplaying game will use 2d20, the in-house roleplaying system designed by Jay Little (Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, X-Wing Miniatures Game) for Mutant Chronicles, which encourages cinematic action with its simple mechanics. New rules will introduce hacking, starships, playing characters who are fragments of an AI and much more. The core of the system is a '2d20' roll versus a character's Attribute and Skill total allowing for multiple successes, and Infinity fans will recognize many other familiar elements which will help translate the tabletop action into the roleplaying world.

How Can You Get The Infinity RPG?

Modiphius will be starting playtesting in the next few weeks, so sign up here if you'd like to help shape the game, otherwise in the Spring we'll be launching a pre-order. This will be a limited pre-order for just the corebook which will ship around late Spring 2015. You will receive the PDF as soon as it's ready.

If you sign up to the pre-order you will also get a regularly series of free PDF adventures, following the original adventures of the Infinity team! These will be released later in print for everyone to buy but you'll have them first!

Infinity, The Roleplaying Game: Adventures in the Human Sphere and Beyond will then be available in retail in the Summer through Modiphius's usual distributors as a full color hardcover, with an estimated retail price of £34.99 - £39.99 depending on final page count.

Modiphius will be running a Kickstarter in Summer 2015 to further expand the range - campaigns, supplements, custom dice, new 'RPG miniatures' by Corvus Belli, geomorphic floorplan tiles, poster maps and more.

What Will Be In the Roleplaying Book?

You'll discover how the original story developed, the backstory around some of the major events in the Infinity universe, secrets that have only been guessed at, and much more through the growing range of Infinity roleplaying books. Modiphius will be digging deeper to let you adventure through the worlds of each faction, and plan for your roleplaying campaigns to include suggested skirmish games to play out as well.

The roleplaying game will focus on interesting characters and organisations that will let you explore the Infinity universe from a different perspective. There is one organisation in particular with a dangerous agenda, that will lead you on an epic adventure through the key events of the Infinity story!

Looks to be an exciting time for those who love the background story in the Infinity universe. Will you be signing up as a playtester? Let us know in the comments below.

The World of Smog: On Her Majesty’s Service up on Kickstarter from CoolMiniOrNot

CoolMiniOrNot is glad to announce the launch of its new Kickstarter campaign! In a partnership with Panache Animations, we bring you The World of Smog: On Her Majesty's Service, a strategical steampunk board game for two to four players. The Kickstarter campaign offers exclusive content for backers and a lot more to be unlocked as the campaign progresses.
In The World of Smog: On Her Majesty's Service, each player controls a different Gentleman, tasked by Queen Victoria to journey into the Shadow Market and bring her four precious Artefacts. To do so, they'll need to navigate the underworld of shifting gears that is the Shadow Market, buying and selling the different Ethers in order to have the Coins necessary to acquire all four of the Artefacts. One unique aspect of On Her Majesty's Service is that each player may only interact with the icons that are facing their edge of the board. Since the tiles that make up the board are frequently rotated by the players' actions, the landscape of options available to each player is in constant change. Manipulating the board to one's advantage (and to hinder your opponents) is crucial to victory.
Gathering the different Ethers (mana, blood, titanium and ectoplasm) is also essential to allow the players to activate the powerful Special Action cards they can gain. And more importantly, once they've acquired all four Artefacts, they'll need to have the right amount of each Ether to match their Secret Combination in order to be allowed to leave the Shadow Market through their Secret Gate. Thus, choosing what Ethers to buy and when to sell them is a key factor to making sure your whole plan lines up.
The Gentlemen are not alone in the Shadow Market, however. The Agents of the Shadow Master rule this place, and each of them has a different ability that often hinders (but may sometimes aid) the Gentlemen's progress. Players can pay a tribute to the Shadow Master in order to gain his favour, allowing them some control over the Agents' actions.

Game Contents
  • Game board with 12 rotating tiles
  • 4 Gentleman figures
  • 6 Agent figures
  • 30 coin tokens
  • 30 Hourglass tokens
  • 16 Ether counters
  • 4 Gentleman dashboards
  • 67 cards
The gears are in motion for The World of Smog!

The Last Parsec

Pinnacle Entertainment Group launched a Kickstarter for The Last Parsec, a space exploration setting for Savage Worlds
Pinnacle Entertainment Group is the creator of Savage Worlds, an award-winning tabletop roleplaying game system.

Kickstarter Project: Savage Worlds Goes to the Last Parsec and Beyond!

Pinnacle Entertainment Group, creators of the award-winning tabletop roleplaying game Savage Worlds, launched a Kickstarter project for The Last Parsectoday. You can find the Kickstarter page in the link here.

The Last Parsec is a space exploration setting using the Savage Worlds Science Fiction Companion. A free 12-page document (The Last Parsec Primer) detailing the setting rules and background information on playing characters in The Last Parsec is available at https://www.peginc.com/product-category/the-last-parsec/ .

The Kickstarter for The Last Parsec offers print and PDF access to three setting books, a Game Master Screen with an adventure, 9 miniatures, 2 double-sided ship maps, Bennies (poker chips), and a double deck of playing cards. Stretch goals include a soundtrack by Harry Mack, Wild Dice, archetypes, more adventures, printable paper miniatures, a JumpCorp Requisition Kit with forms, ID cards, and death certificates, and finally the potential to unlock additional miniatures.

Pinnacle President Shane Hensley discussed some of the inspiration behind The Last Parsec in the first of several Design Diary releases, located in this link. Here is a snippet from that document:

Imagine the awe and wonder of discovering an intelligent being. Or even some wild and terrifying animal. And that's what The Last Parsec is all about. It's not hard science fiction or military science fiction or even space opera. It's exploration science fiction where an explorer and her companions can be the first to step into the boundless void and discover things beyond our wildest dreams. It’s a setting where you can play alien races humanity has already encountered and experience the awe and wonder of the possible.

The sheer size of The Last Parsec also means that we wanted it to be something like a “sandbox”—or more appropriately, a “starbox”—game where Game Masters can make their own worlds, armies, societies, monsters, races, and adventures.

Mars Attacks!!

‘Mars Attacks – The Miniatures Game’ Arrives In Stores Next Month

22nd September  -  Get ready to be invaded!   Topps and Mantic Games have joined forces to bring MARS ATTACKS to life as a miniature-based tabletop wargame – and in the early weeks of October it arrives in retail stores. This comes just a year after its smash hit Kickstarter campaign!

The game combines high quality, pre-assembled figures with fast and fun tactical gameplay.  With clip together terrain, this exciting new game is playable right out of the box!  The retail set comes with 20 Martians, 10 Earth Soldiers and 9 assorted heroes.  One player takes the role of the invaders, the other the defenders and they fight it out to the death! There is also a full colour play mat marked with a grid, and quick-assembly plastic scenery.  Included too are dice, a rulebook and a full card deck featuring spectacular all-new art by renowned fantasy illustrator Jeff Miracola!

Mantic Games - makers of the popular DEADZONE, KINGS OF WAR and DREADBALL tabletop games - launch with MARS ATTACKS as their first licensedproduct.  The Mars Attacks product range was funded using Kickstarter with $558,076 pledged to create the release. After achieving it’s initial funding in just over 12 minutes, the campaign reached enough stretch goals to add such exciting extras as Flying Saucers, Giant Robots and Mutated Insects that will all see retailers’ shelves via a selection of game extensions.

“After Mars Attacks raised more than 1100% of its initial goal on Kickstarter we were able to bring a complete retail range to market from the onset, even with the prohibitively high costs of plastic tooling. If Mars Attacks follows the same patterns as our previous  ranges on Kickstarter, we expect crowd funding will account for only 20% of the total sales – the majority we anticipate will be seen in the local hobby and comic shops in the coming months and years,” said Ronnie Renton, CEO Mantic Games.

Topps originally launched Mars Attacks in 1962 as a series of collectible bubblegum cards, which later served as the basis for a feature film in 1996 by Warner Brothers and directed by Tim Burton.  Since 2012, to celebrate the brand’s 50th Anniversary, Topps has been working to bring the Martians back into the mainstream through new trading cards, comic books and a variety of licensed partnerships, including this one with Mantic Games.

“Mantic’s Kickstarter allowed us to reach a new segment of fans, expand our audience and create a viral excitement that might have been tough to achieve otherwise” said Topps’ Head of Outbound Licensing Adam Levine.  “The end result of the crowd-funding campaign speaks for itself, and illustrates the affection fans have for Mars Attacksafter more than 50 years.”
