Official INFINITY Tabletop Roleplaying Game Announced!

London-based Modiphius Entertainment has announced a licensing deal with Corvus Belli to create a line of roleplaying games based on INFINITY, their top-selling miniatures skirmish game.

Infinity was launched by Spanish company, Corvus Belli in 2005. It actually started life as a homemade RPG setting for the early roleplaying adventures of Alberto, Carlos, Fernando and Gutier, before it evolved into the hugely-popular wargame and miniatures range.

The team's original RPG sessions featured the ever-controlling AI ALEPH, the Ariadnan isolated colonists, the fearsome Hassassin and the tricky Tohaa, and later grew into their gaming universe. A never-released comic project provided the first concept design, which inspired them to create Infinity the game.

The Infinity storyline follows the battles of the Human Sphere against the alien Combined Army, a collection of conquered alien races led by an aggressively resourceful AI. A recent encounter with the enigmatic Tohaa, who want to ally with the Human Sphere against the common enemy, sets the stage for a vast story of conspiracy, war and adventure.

Now, the gaming world is poised to discover the truth behind Infinity. The newly-announced roleplaying game will give players the freedom to adventure in the Human Sphere and beyond, learning a myriad of never-seen-before secrets about the Infinity universe and its strange alien races.

Modiphius teamed up with Corvus Bellis to unite their roleplaying publishing expertise with the fantastic Infinity setting.

"As Infinity was created by roleplayers, our secret desire has been always to release the RPG version of the game. Unfortunately, Infinity requires all our time and we were unable to create the RPG everyone has been asking for. To find the right partner, with the same attention to detail has been really difficult and the reason we have not released an RPG before. So, when Chris contacted us we felt very happy, as he demonstrated a deep understanding of the universe and spirit of Infinity. We discussed plenty of covert operations, secret schemes and adventures and we know Modiphius has a very professional approach that will ensure they deliver a truly high-quality product. Now we only regret not having teamed up with them before!" said Gutier, background developer of Infinity.

Modiphius have announced that the Infinity roleplaying game will use 2d20, the in-house roleplaying system designed by Jay Little (Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, X-Wing Miniatures Game) for Mutant Chronicles, which encourages cinematic action with its simple mechanics. New rules will introduce hacking, starships, playing characters who are fragments of an AI and much more. The core of the system is a '2d20' roll versus a character's Attribute and Skill total allowing for multiple successes, and Infinity fans will recognize many other familiar elements which will help translate the tabletop action into the roleplaying world.

How Can You Get The Infinity RPG?

Modiphius will be starting playtesting in the next few weeks, so sign up here if you'd like to help shape the game, otherwise in the Spring we'll be launching a pre-order. This will be a limited pre-order for just the corebook which will ship around late Spring 2015. You will receive the PDF as soon as it's ready.

If you sign up to the pre-order you will also get a regularly series of free PDF adventures, following the original adventures of the Infinity team! These will be released later in print for everyone to buy but you'll have them first!

Infinity, The Roleplaying Game: Adventures in the Human Sphere and Beyond will then be available in retail in the Summer through Modiphius's usual distributors as a full color hardcover, with an estimated retail price of £34.99 - £39.99 depending on final page count.

Modiphius will be running a Kickstarter in Summer 2015 to further expand the range - campaigns, supplements, custom dice, new 'RPG miniatures' by Corvus Belli, geomorphic floorplan tiles, poster maps and more.

What Will Be In the Roleplaying Book?

You'll discover how the original story developed, the backstory around some of the major events in the Infinity universe, secrets that have only been guessed at, and much more through the growing range of Infinity roleplaying books. Modiphius will be digging deeper to let you adventure through the worlds of each faction, and plan for your roleplaying campaigns to include suggested skirmish games to play out as well.

The roleplaying game will focus on interesting characters and organisations that will let you explore the Infinity universe from a different perspective. There is one organisation in particular with a dangerous agenda, that will lead you on an epic adventure through the key events of the Infinity story!

Looks to be an exciting time for those who love the background story in the Infinity universe. Will you be signing up as a playtester? Let us know in the comments below.

The World of Smog: On Her Majesty’s Service up on Kickstarter from CoolMiniOrNot

CoolMiniOrNot is glad to announce the launch of its new Kickstarter campaign! In a partnership with Panache Animations, we bring you The World of Smog: On Her Majesty's Service, a strategical steampunk board game for two to four players. The Kickstarter campaign offers exclusive content for backers and a lot more to be unlocked as the campaign progresses.
In The World of Smog: On Her Majesty's Service, each player controls a different Gentleman, tasked by Queen Victoria to journey into the Shadow Market and bring her four precious Artefacts. To do so, they'll need to navigate the underworld of shifting gears that is the Shadow Market, buying and selling the different Ethers in order to have the Coins necessary to acquire all four of the Artefacts. One unique aspect of On Her Majesty's Service is that each player may only interact with the icons that are facing their edge of the board. Since the tiles that make up the board are frequently rotated by the players' actions, the landscape of options available to each player is in constant change. Manipulating the board to one's advantage (and to hinder your opponents) is crucial to victory.
Gathering the different Ethers (mana, blood, titanium and ectoplasm) is also essential to allow the players to activate the powerful Special Action cards they can gain. And more importantly, once they've acquired all four Artefacts, they'll need to have the right amount of each Ether to match their Secret Combination in order to be allowed to leave the Shadow Market through their Secret Gate. Thus, choosing what Ethers to buy and when to sell them is a key factor to making sure your whole plan lines up.
The Gentlemen are not alone in the Shadow Market, however. The Agents of the Shadow Master rule this place, and each of them has a different ability that often hinders (but may sometimes aid) the Gentlemen's progress. Players can pay a tribute to the Shadow Master in order to gain his favour, allowing them some control over the Agents' actions.

Game Contents
  • Game board with 12 rotating tiles
  • 4 Gentleman figures
  • 6 Agent figures
  • 30 coin tokens
  • 30 Hourglass tokens
  • 16 Ether counters
  • 4 Gentleman dashboards
  • 67 cards
The gears are in motion for The World of Smog!
